Why I Febfast
This February I’m doing FebFast. That’s no booze all month to raise money for Lifeline. I’m an ex-addict and for many people (like myself) the problem doesn’t start with drugs, it starts with alcohol. My job as a trauma cleaner means I’m regularly exposed to the aftermath of people who’ve lost their battle with addiction and mental health. Around 3,200 Australians die by suicide each year, that’s about bloody 9 people every day and that figure only includes cases officially confirmed as intentional. Many overdose deaths aren’t counted unless intent can be proven, which means the real toll is likely higher. I’m doing this in solidarity with anyone who’s struggling, and to support the services that are there when people hit their lowest point.
Every 24 seconds, someone in Australia reaches out to Lifeline for help
That’s more than 3,000 people every single day who just need someone to listen. By skipping the sip for one month, I’m not only giving my body a break – I’m helping make sure Lifeline can be there, anytime and anywhere, for the people who need it most.
It’s a small challenge for me, but it could mean life-changing support for someone else.
Together we can ensure Lifeline can continue to be there 24/7 so that no one has to face their toughest moments alone.
